Fortunate that I was not here doing a certificate because my course blogging has been spotty at best (a generous assessment, all but non-existent might be more accurate). On the other hand I am thinking about putting together a Storify covering online projects.

Eeek! I'm sorry, Norm. That got left on the schedule but no one created it, and I forgot to delete it when we decided to go with asynchronous presentations. We are meeting at four campuses and online on April 19, but we won't be doing presentations.

Thanks for the video Jim. I especially enjoyed your choice of song and cover band. U2 is one of my very favorites, and "Helter Skelter" is how I felt sometimes during the online discovery journey I have been on. Thanks for all the helpful posts throughout the year! :)

Wow! This is so much better. Thank Lisa. We ask and you somehow pull many rabbits out of your online hat and make it happen; rabbits being appropriate for this time of year.

I hope to gain even an 1/8th of the knowledge you have in the online world. I have to say it was very satisfying to assist a fellow POT-er with Audacity and Soundcloud. I hope I can be of more use rather than always asking for help in the future.

This is Lisa. Let me try both of these at once (I think Jim's tied up with Senate Council stuff!).

An open class is one where anyone can join, and it usually takes place on the open web. Often all that's required is to sign in or send an email address to the facilitators. This is an open class. So are the high-level artificial intelligence classes currently being offered by Stanford University, and the Massive Open Online Classes (MOOCs) being offered by people like George Siemens.

Hybrid and blended are synonymous, but I'm seeing an increased difference in usage which may help explain why one or the other is preferred. Many schools who first had classroom classes, then had online classes, and now have hybrids use the term "hybrid", primarily to refer to the format in which the class is offered in catalogs and schedules. The term "blended" is used more often by places that either have a less traditional history coming to these classes, or want to be trendy.

Whether by coincidence or morphic resonance, I opened the page while reading email about a "blended learning" webinar. That put me wondering whether there is any significant difference between blended and hybrid, and if so, what is it. So far, it sounds to me like blended is more popular with administrators, online learning service/content providers and other corporations. Is semantic the only difference?

Hi Jim,
How would you define an "open class"? I'm specifically asking regarding the first question you have on the list. You are asking us to express our opinion regarding these three different courses, and the book only defines two of them. when you ask for "open courses" are you referring to courses taught completely online?
Thanks
