Many of us experience the Learning Management System as the platform we are told to use. In many colleges, Blackboard, Moodle or Desire2Learn have been contracted for large sums of money, and are tied into the enrollment systems. Most colleges also do not provide any education in online pedagogy, instead focusing on training instructors to use the LMS.
Viewing the LMS monolithically can limit your pedagogy, which is one reason why this Learning Pathway begins with your own commitment to your own teaching methods. Even when we are forced to use a particular LMS, many outside tools and methods can be used to force the technology to fit our pedagogy, instead of the other way around.
